Missouri PAs, consumers fight home care cuts
Missouri Home Care Union members and consumers fighting to stop budget cuts celebrated victory as the state legislature approved a bill with additional funding to the home care program.
Members and consumers from throughout the state traveled weekly to Jefferson City, the state capital, to let their legislators know the negative impact any cuts would have on consumers and jobs.
Their efforts recently moved the state House of Representatives to pass a budget proposal that includes more than $5 million in additional revenue to the home care program. Members now are putting pressure on the state Senate to support the funding recommendations.
“I love doing my work and the joy and security I am able to provide to my consumer. I’m going to work hard in 2011 to continue the progress we are making for home care attendants and people with disabilities,” said member Carol Viuchard, congratulating members for being vigilant in their efforts to stop cuts.
