VICTORY

Thursday, August 10th 5:09 PM

We’re so excited to share that we just reached a tentative agreement with Loretto Hospital. Our workers stood strong and we’re so appreciative of you all’s solidarity.

The tentative agreement provides for:

✅Starting rate increases

✅Years of service increases

✅Across the board increases

✅Juneteenth as paid holiday

Background

The Staffing Crisis

Loretto Hospital, on Chicago’s West Side, is facing a significant staffing crisis, with vacancy rates ranging from 25 to 35% in various positions and an annual staff turnover of 60%. The hospital is lagging behind other facilities on wages, despite having been allocated $10 million in funding from the state of Illinois specifically to address worker recruitment and retention.

Worker Demands

In contract bargaining, workers are demanding the living wages neede to address unsafe staffing including for the most experienced workers, and Juneteenth as a permanent holiday.

Loretto Hospital’s Decisions Just Don’t Add Up

Loretto is critically understaffed and spends huge amount of money on overtime to try and fill the gaps. Loretto might actually save money if they raised wages because they would attract more workers and less workers would leave burnt out because of grueling workloads.

In another headscratching example, Loretto spend a million dollars this week for strikebreakers. Yet, they claim they can’t afford a million dollars a year for safe staffing. #ItDoesntAddUp
