Background
Lewelyn Dixon, affectionately known as “Auntie Lynn” in the community, is a lab tech at the University of Washington Medical Center and a member of SEIU 925. She has been detained since late February at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma, Washington. She went to the Philippines, just like she had for many years, to visit family. She was detained on the way back from this trip. Lewelyn came to the United States when she was 14 and is a Legal Permanent Resident. She has a non-violent conviction from over 20 years ago and has already paid her penance. Her immigration court merits hearing is scheduled for Thursday, May 29 at the Tacoma Immigration Court in Tacoma, Washington. SEIU locals in WA and Oregon will mobilize outside the detention center and support Lewelyn during her hearing.
