Following is a statement on behalf of Lenny Jones, SEIU Healthcare Missouri State Director and Vice President in response to today’s delivery

St. Louis – “We are proud to be a part of the Healthcare for Missouri coalition as we mark a major milestone in our efforts to bring quality healthcare to 230,000 more Missourians. The signature delivery today exceeds the requirements for placing this critical issue on the November ballot by more than double, exemplifying the energy and support this movement for Medicaid expansion has across our state.

“Our union represents 4,000 healthcare workers serving on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, and they see firsthand the ramifications of our state’s current coverage gap in the communities where they live and work. Some even find themselves in this coverage gap as they earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but cannot afford the cost of private insurance.

“This is a step forward for all Missourians and once approved by voters this November, will lead to the creation of thousands of jobs, will keep our rural hospitals open, and will boost our economy as we anticipate a tumultuous recovery following the pandemic.

“SEIU Healthcare Missouri members stand ready to do the work necessary to educate our friends, family, and neighbors about what’s at stake and we look forward to finally expanding Medicaid in Missouri this fall.”
