Remainder of Retro Pay Owed to IL Addus Workers Released
The state funding that Addus was waiting on to release the remainder of retro pay owed to workers from July 1- November 30, 2019 has been released and those who worked during that period of time and are owed retro pay can expect a supplemental check on Monday, May 18 for what is owed.
Every Addus home care aide is eligible for retro pay except those working at a branch office in the city of Chicago with 16 years or less of service because those workers received their full raise on July 1, 2019 due to the Chicago minimum wage increase.
Home care aides united in our union fought hard to win our 2019 and 2020 raises and we are pleased that Addus workers will finally receive the remainder of the retro pay they are owed.
Here is a breakdown from Addus of what is owed to workers based on the location of the branch office you work out of:
All Branch Offices Except those in Cook County/Chicago
- In areas outside Chicago and Cook County all employees will receive retro pay.
- The amount of retroactive wages for services to non-MCO clients were tabulated. The amount was then divided by the total number of hours worked by all employees. The result is that each employee will receive $1.01 per hour in retroactive wages for all hours worked between July 1, 2019 and November 30, 2019. This payment will be on a supplemental payroll check dated 5/18/2020.
Cook County Branch Offices (excludes Chicago)
- In Cook County all employees with over 1 year experience with Addus, as of December 2019, will receive a retro pay.
- Retroactive wages will be calculated for increases in wage based on the 2019 wage scale including hours worked serving clients outside of areas paid at the current $12 minimum wage.
- The amount of retroactive wages for all services to non-MCO clients among employees who received a retroacative payment according to the 2019 wage scale were tabulated. The amount was then divided by the total number of hours worked by all employees who received an increase according to the 2019 wage scale. The result is that each employee who received an increase on the wage scale effective 12/1/2019 will receive $0.81 per hour in retroactive wages for all hours worked between July 1, 2019 and November 30, 2019. This payment will be on a supplemntal payroll check dated 5/18/2020.
City of Chicago Branch Offices
- In Chicago all employees with 17 or more years of experience with Addus, as of December 2019, will receive a retro pay.
- The amount of retroactive wages for all services to non-MCO clients among employees who had 17 years or more tenure were tabulated. The amount was then divided by the total number of hours worked by employees who had 17 years or more tenure. The result is that each employee over 17 years or more of tenure will receive $0.20 per hour in retroactive wages for all hours worked between July 1, 2019 and November 30, 2019. This payment will be on a supplemental payroll check dated 5/18/2020.
- Chicago employees with 16 years or less years of tenure, as of December 2019, are not receiving retroactive wages as they were already paid at $13 which is more than the amount called for in the 2019 wage scale due to the Chicago minimum wage increase.
We’ve been busy fighting for another raise for workers and for what home care aides need to serve on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic so stay tuned for more updates.
