4% Rate Increase & PTO for Child Care Providers
Today’s the day.
Starting today, July 1st, two benefits we fought for and won as part of our union contract are officially rolling out for every family child care provider in Illinois:
A 4% rate increase (part of the 25% cumulative rate increase we’ll get over the 3 years of our contract)
5 days of paid time off (use them in the next 12 months—they don’t roll over!)
This could not have happened without all of us working together. Two years ago, family child care providers across this state joined together in our union, stood up, and didn’t back down until the State agreed to a contract that finally started treating child care like the essential work it is. We have to be real: this is not the finish line. Costs are rising. Rent, groceries, gas all add up. That’s why the rate increases we negotiated are a huge feat, but the fight only carries on from here. Child care jobs can be the good jobs they should be—but only if more of us get in this fight together.
Come to a meeting near you.
We will be hosting regional meetings across Illinois this summer to talk about what we just won, what’s next, and how we build the power to win even bigger. Today, we celebrate what we’ve already won, but we also march forward together. For that, we need every child care provider with us so that we can be stronger at the bargaining table next time around.I know we can do this. Let’s make child care jobs the good jobs they deserve to be so we can keep doing this essential work.In unity,
